E.T. Call Home...

... and finally after 4 years we'll go home as well :) Unfortunately just for 10 days. More like 9 (10 with traveling and stuff). As you can imagine we wouldn't have time to visit everybody I want so I came up with a master plan and we will do a so called "garden-party" with the famous "boghrats-goulash" :) or something like that... hehe

if you are interested please send me a post-pigeon or even better, an email :) to imehesz[at]gmail.com or imehesz[at]mehesz.net so I can tell you more about the party and how to find our house (which is not easy!)

How-to Write History ...

well, more like how to translate it :)

I remember about 1.5-2 years ago the whole internet was loud about a new revolutionary development tool, called Ruby On Rails (or RoR). As an always interested geeky computer guy, I jumped right into it. I barely slept back then as I tried to set up my local server and I wrote my first things with Ruby. Honestly, I did like it but somehow I got lost somewhere, I lost my interest.

A couple of months later I just wanted to create something again (got tired of killing robots with my DS probably) and that's when CakePHP came in the picture. The idea is the same as RoR's but this time is with PHP (which I knew pretty well ...) I did not keep my feelings to myself and I told this project to my cousin in Hungary (palee) and he recommended to translate this thing from english to hungarian. About a week later the basic site was up (CakePHP.hu) and I was contacting the main guys at CakePHP.

After the first couple of days we got more than 1000 visitors, downloads, etc... and we have a strong translating base group. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks we can release our own CakePHP engine entirely translated to hungarian. If I say it feels good, I didn't really tell you how it feels :)

the hole on the wall

I had my best tools. The best tools, that the 21st century could offer. Laser liner, electric screw driver, electric drill, well designed shelf and screws, EVERYTHING. And about 2 hours later when I finished the installation of our new furniture on the "kitchen/dining" wall, my lovely wife just simply said: "It's not straight!" - for the first 15-20 minutes I tried to prove her wrong with all my tools but couldn't trick her (and not even my!) eyes. It just wasn't straight. Obviously, we had to fix it somehow and a good ol' hammer and a nail did the trick, however we still have an inch wide and deep hole on the wall. Tell you the least, she was not happy.

The following day I consulted with at least 3 married couples and they all (each and every one of them!) had their own story about the hole on the wall. Some of them covered it with a picture or a curtain or just left it there for future reference :)

Some visitors, more presents ...

Even though Christmas is way behind us we still receive more presents, just because we have a house. So good to say that :) We got two cool lamp stands, a TV stand and mom sent us a digital sewing machine along with a CD which I do not like ... I also got some tools and carpentering stuff...

We had my brother (older) and his family over, we had fun especially with my niece (Jade) who also has a Nintendo DS so we played a lot together, against each-other. Apparently Super Mario is not my favorite game ...

Couple of days later my in-laws were in town, we went bowling (my butt still hurt!) and Ali surprised them with the famous Hungarian Csirke-Paprikas w/ nokedli. It was good.

Oh, yeah. And I became a member of our church :)

2007 Jokes

Let me start 2007 with a funny joke (what kind of joke isn't funny?) I recently read on Google ;)

What is the difference between Jurassic Park and Microsoft?

One is an over-rated high tech theme park based on prehistoric information and populated mostly by dinosaurs, the other is a Steven Spielberg movie.

By the way, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
